1988 Ford Crown Victoria LTD review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This car has done me good over all. I just changed the transmission mount. I came very close to ruining the car over this. But! The car now after repairing this myself and four hard worked hours to do it. The car is running better than it has in months and is like it is new again.
My car has a 302, 5 litre. The motor started having a slight rattle when started from a cold start. Motor is still the same today with over 239,000 km. The crank bearings I was told is the problem. So now I over fill the oil from the fill mark by one more litre of oil. The rattle is not always herd. It may only happen once a month. sometimes more. But! After a second or two, the rattle is gone and the motor is fine.
I do not go easy on the car or plan on too!
I undercoat my car and also the body. I only found my first hole in the body last month. Road salt is very hard where I live so for the year. My car is looking fine. Surface rust is in areas now. I do my own body and paint work.
I have all the tools for this work.
So this summer you know what I will be doing.
I parked my car for a year and was driving another ford. The worst thing you can do to a car or truck. I had to replace both calipers, brake cylinders,
front shocks, rear brake kits, one rotor. The full exhaust from intermediate pipe, muffler and tailpipe.
Overall I still love this car and plan to have it for a good while yet.
I plan to purchase a motor for it and put it aside for when this one dies.
The half vinyl roof is a small problem if I paint my car this summer. It is very dull and the top has cracks all threw it everywhere. I will take it off and paint the top or just paint it over new. I will decide on that later.
My nexted concern is the base pan. It has been leaking for sometime now. This is a big job for me. Motor has to be lifted about four inches to get pan out.
Well if you are a crown vic owner. I hope you enjoy your car like I have.
I'm a ford man anyway. So I would buy another even if my car was a lemon.
