1998 Dodge Neon Highline 2 dr review from North America
"A dependable, inexpensive little race car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
One time in 2001 my fuel pump decided to not work. This had come as no surprise since the car had always given me trouble when starting with less than 1/4 of a tank.
Nonetheless, we got the car towed, and the car was ready the next day and we owed $50 for the deductible on the warranty. Bottom line: The tow was paid for, the service was paid for, the only drawback of the incident was the fact that we didn't receive a loaner from the dealership given it was 6:00 p.m. and the dealership was closed.
That aside no other major component has gone bad;
I replaced the front and rear brakes because they were worn not defective.
I replaced the spark plugs (very easy to do)
I flushed and filled the coolant.
Other than normal maintenance I haven't
had any real problems, the car has never left me stranded.
General comments?
If there's one thing that other people with Chrysler products have complained about to me is the automatic transmission. The vehicle doesn't want to start in 1st gear or hesitates or doesn't want to go, I have only one comment: Purchase a 5 speed manual. I have enjoyed that ever since the day we rolled it out of the dealership. The gearing of the transmission is actually quite unbelievable; 3rd gear tops at 90 4th
at 115.
That aside, I have taken this car on 2 annual vacations 750 miles each way straight through with no trouble.
The best thing I can say for my car is the fact that I've taken care of it:
Washing, waxing, oil changes, maintenance, etc.
It will run forever...
