2002 Peugeot 307 XSi review from UK and Ireland
"Competent, safe, solid....yawn..."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Irritating buzz from passenger side dash at 3,000 RPM.
General comments?
As sensible as a pair of brown Brogues and about as much fun.
Spacious, safe, comfortable and refined with awesome brakes, yet too uninvolving and way too big to be fun. The driver is very isolated from the action which is a complete U-turn for Peugeot. Also lacks the poise and balance under duress which Pugs are reknowned for, and the steering is vague and over-assisted. Also the 2.0 16v engine delivers very ordinary performance and is harsh and breathless when revved. XSi's are supposed to be drivers cars, not shopping trolleys!
It's been reliable so far, and dash buzz apart, seems beautifully built, but if I want that I'll buy a VW. Come on Peugeot, where's that sense of fun that's made your cars so popular in this country? Instead we have a car which is designed squarely for the 2.4 kids and the bolt on roof rack.
