1996 Chrysler Neon LX review from UK and Ireland
"A well-built, reliable car that provides an excellent level of performance and refinement for a car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The automatic transmission had to be rebuilt at 50000 miles due to over heating.
The front windows need adjustment as they are now beginning to become noisy at speed and there is a slight draft from the driver side.
General comments?
This is a very quick, reliable car that holds the road as though it is on rails.
The road holding can be further improved by the fitment of larger wheels and lower profile tyres, however do not go above 15-inch wheels and the ride becomes somewhat uncomfortable.
The feedback from the steering is positive and improves further with lower profile tyres.
The road holding in dry weather with the standard tyres and wheels is good and proves itself to be a sure-footed vehicle.
In wet weather however, the car becomes very skittery, even with a gentle pull-off on a slight incline. Again this improves with improved tyres.
Overall the interior is a little bland, however it has all the gadgets the heart could desire and all controls are placed in just the right place to be at your finger tips.
The seating is very comfortable and provide good back and lower lumbar support which is an essential criteria on long journeys. When adjusted correctly, the proper seating position can be found for people of any height and stature.
