1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera review from North America
"Good car to learn in."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Oh my goodness... where to begin...
Well, it stalls when I go in reverse, or stop for more than 5 minutes at a time (which is not good for long stop lights).
The sun/moon roof and doors leak.
The windshield wipers only go at one speed, and when you do get them going, you have to time it just right to shut them off again.
The automatic trunk opener button does not work.
There is a short in the fuse for the radio /interior lights/horn/
clock/ headlight warning ding; as soon as I replace it, it burns out again.
The driver and backseat seat belts do not stay latched.
The driver seat is broken so that if you lean back on it, it falls backwards.
There are terrible rust spots.
The left hand turn signal does not have automatic shut off.
Also, when I first engage the engine, or make a left hand turn, a loud screeching noise comes from under the hood.
The heater went this past winter (2001-2002).
The power windows and locks, when I can get them to work, are very slow.
The alternator went soon after purchase.
General comments?
Even though over all it's a "hunk o' junk", it was my first car and I'm kind of grateful for all of it's quirks. It has taught me how to deal with problems that come about.
Also, I'd been in two or three fender-benders, and it's stood up through them all with little damage.
It certainly will stand up through anything you throw at it.
