1988 Honda Concerto Ex-i review from Australia and New Zealand

"A good performance bargain with good Honda reliability"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Had to change its shocks (suspensions) due to wear and tear.

Replaced Master Brake Cylinder.

Seats are making excessive noises.

General comments?

Satisfactory performance.

I am pleased with the car's performance.

The interior aesthetics have been timeless, since the mid 90's and age is just slowly appearing.

Has many frills, electronics as such comparable with modern cars.

Good sound with 4 speakers.

Criticism of the car points towards its fuel consumption, which sucks up heaps in less than a business week, five days.

Average acceleration is sluggish, feels actively underpowered.

But if properly encouraged with the right foot can yield some interesting results when needed.

The B18c or B18b engine, would've been a better choice for a 4CL family car of this nature as its torque would've done this car some justice in the heavy passenger carrying class.

A VTEC replacement engine would be nice.

While I have some criticisms about the D16Z's performance, I do enjoy having fun with it.

Engines responsive and smooth, quickly zips in and out of traffic on Eastern and South Eastern freeways.

I love to mash the accelerator down, as the rapidly advancing revolutions of the motor keep the automatic gearbox from shifting until it reaches the rev limiter (6500RP/M).

4000RP/M is about where the D16Z's torque shows up.

Auto transmission needs to be changed though due to its poor shifting sometimes.

The maximum speed I have reached in the Concerto has been 150KM/H, which is all-right as far as I'm concerned, although some day I may consider options in the distant future.

Overall, a good buy.
