1989 Ford Escort LX review from North America
"One of the best cars ever made, even if it is a remodeled Pinto"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
It always has had a bad habit of just quitting fo no known reason. Sometimes it would start back, but most times wouldn't. The headlight swicht had to be replaced. Ever since the dealer did it, the instrument panel lights only come on if the switch is turned to the position for the interior lights to come on. So if you want to see the speedometer at night, you must remove the interior light bulbs.
General comments?
This car otherwise, has been very dependable. My wife has had better luck with it than her current car, a '95 Buick Skylark. Her son, has tried to destroy this car, the typical teenager stuff, but it keeps on going and going. She calls it the " The FROG". (It's not green and I wouldn't try jumping puddles with it.) Instead of Ford Escort, I call it "The TIMEX Frog". It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. It keeps on goin' and goin'. Maybe it should be "The TIMEX Bunny"??? It has done good to have ran without oil and water and transmission fluid. I now keep it full and we have put over 1,700 miles on it and only used 1 & 1/2 quarts of oil.
