1994 Toyota 4Runner SR5 review from North America

Head gasket blew at 108,000 miles. After inquiring with the dealership about the history of this vehicle, found that there was a head gasket recall for this year/model's engine and gaskets were replaced, per recall, at 70,000 miles. Therefore, only 38,000 miles on new set of head gaskets. Expensive repair with no identification of the problem or confidence of the fix.

I don't understand the "love affair" with Toyota vehicles. I have owned four, two camerys and one pickup, with poor reliability and high repair costs on each. I think I have had enough.

The most recent is the 4-Runner. It is a beautiful vehicle in appearance, but severely underpowered. Pedal to the metal if driving into the wind at 70MPH highway speeds (not to mention how thirsty the engine is for gas).

The head gasket problem convinced me that Toyota Customer Service could care less about my problem. I just wanted to be sure that Toyota knew why the gaskets were failing and that they implemented a fix! After a letter and many calls with no help I finally got a call from an engineer who essentially said I have a fine vehicle with unsurpassed reliability and not to worry. Boy, did that make me feel better.

On the positive side, most of the controls continue to work and the engine is very quiet in idle.
