1990 Ford Thunderbird LX review from North America
"Sharp grocery getter"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The head gaskets have blowed twice because of being run hot.
Never overheat a cast iron engine
that has aluminum heads.
(Bottom radiator hose developed leak & Water pump leaked) $800.00 each time.
Driver side door hinges (both), To replace, the dash must be removed to access a nut on the top hinge.
$100.00 for both hinges & $150.00 Labor
Both headlights had to be replaced because of discoloration of the lens.
Aluminum rims became discolored and the paint flaked off center caps.
Because of the plastic sides, the radiator had to be replaced.
Rack and pinion had to be replaced @ 125,000 miles.
The retractable seat belts are troublesome.
Power steering pump was replaced.
Have to keep this 1990 T-Bird because of no trade in value.
General comments?
Air conditioner works great.
Combination door lock/unlock works great.
Great fuel mileage -
24-26 MPG @ 57 MPH with air on.
Installed 1996 T-bird (5 spoke) aluminum rims & it looks much better.
Painted dark blue with after-market ground affects with dark tint on windows.
