2002 Dodge Stratus RT review from North America
"The Dodge Stratus RT coupe is exciting, but yet practical"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
There have been no problems to date.
General comments?
My last car was a Dodge Avenger which I found to be quite exciting to drive, but lacking performance and it's interior space a disappointment. The new Mitsubishi manufactured Dodge Stratus Coupe RT should not be confused with it's cousin Detroit made Stratus Sedan. It is a upscaled Avenger with added room especially in the back seat, ride, and performance.
I find the car exciting while still remaining practical. The 3.0L engine puts out a respectful 200 ponies and double wishbone suspension with fron and rear sways give it a better than average handling.
I test drove the Eclipse GT and the Stratus Sedan RT and found the Coupe to be in a class of it's own best described as a Sports Touring Coupe. It is faster than the Sedan and about equal to the GT and while more nimble than the Sedan not as nimble as the GT. Like most reviews, I find the body styling exciting while the interior is comfortable, but a bit Sparton.
Probably the most disapointing aspect was the lack of rear spoiler which I have added.
When my wife and I sold our Avenger, we missed the performance and economics of the car. The Stratus RT coupe fills the gap and more. The car is almost scary in it's highway capability and performace. Lane changes are easy and passing brings a smile to you face as it whips in front of the pack. The torque of the engine, 205 ft/lbs, makes shifting the standard transmission minimal during normal driving. The car almost refuses to "Bull Dog" as you drive around all day in third gear.
The Status RT coupe is definately in a class of its own and is the perfect example of "Dodge Different".
