1986 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 560 SEL review from North America
"Lots of Classic"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The only thing that was "wrong" with the car when I got it was a rear window switch that needed to be replaced for a total of $14! Other than that, I've replaced the ignition coil, wires, cold start valve, radiator and side lamps with clear ones just because and will continue to replace different relays, components just because I'd expect these to go from being so old which confirms the reliability of these automobiles (I just put the old part in the new box-just in case)
General comments?
The car handles flawlessly and when taken care of, will treat you to a comfortable ride to anywhere whether the engine has 10k or 200k miles without missing a beat. Mine still turns heads (especially for an 86) and gets compliments at least 2-3 times on average every other week :)
So far she's treated me just fine and I keep her up myself with oil changes every 2500 miles, luckily the previous owner did replace the timing chain rails which should be done as preventive maintenance (which I will probably change again soon too). Overall, this car is a tank compared too many of the newer model automobiles made today including the newer MB's and would trust the safety features to keep all occupants safe in the event of an accident with no problem.
