1999 Ford Econoline work van review from North America

"good, reliable work truck, unrefined, and noisey"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Van tends to chew up brakes, but it may be because I'm always carrying heavy loads.

Dealer can't seem to get the transmission to shift better.

Odd rattling noises coming from under hood, dealer has not been able to permanently solve.

General comments?

Not a bad work truck.

Handling is a little slushy, but not bad for it's enormous size. Loading it up makes handling only slightly sloppier. Likes to squeak and rattle on rough roads. The bare Sheet metal likes to bounce and rattle on it's frames.

This van is a bit quicker than my Astro, which has.1 liter larger engine. Bear in mind this van is much larger than an Astro! The engine though is insanely noisy and rough running, especially under hard acceleration, or extreme loads.

Transmission is erratic and shifts all over the place. Sometimes shifting when you don't want it to, and not shifting when you need it to.

Air conditioning cools down the vehicle slow, but maintains comfort very well. Remember again, that's a lot of space back there!

Seats do not have any lateral support at all, and if you're tall like me, your hips will hurt on long trips. The gas pedal & engine box locations in relation to the seat means you must hold your right leg to the left of the seat centerline. Plenty of headroom though, and high-back seats are good on your back.
