1985 Chevrolet Cavalier 4-door wagon review from North America
"My first, worst car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator/starter. New muffler needed after losing mine to a road bump. Engine finally lost oil one day while driving and overheated, causing the engine to seize and spit parts on the street.
General comments?
This was the first car I ever owned, and it still haunts me to this day. I purchased the vehicle of an older guy for 500$ to drive back and forth to work/school when I was 17. My dad recommended this one, and I curse him to this day for this one!
This car was a continuous nightmare and an eyesore. Its pumpkin orange color repelled all girls within a 50 mile radius, and it acted as a nasty two-tone compliment to all the rust that was festering. The performance was terrible, I could have lost to a 16HP lawn tractor.
The car liked to die at the most inopportune times. I didn't want to sink a lot of money into the thing, but if I kept it, I knew it would have been a money pit. The transmission shifted poorly and leaked oil/transmission fluid all over the driveway. Overall, it was a good bargain and it more or less served me well for 7 months. But in those 6 months, I spent a lot of time pulling out my hair and calling tow trucks.
