1993 Fiat Uno Turbo review from South Africa

"Economical, sports car with small car easiness and afford-ability"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

80 000Km Turbo oil seals.

120 000Km All kinds of pipes started to brittle.

190 000Km Water pump replacement.

220 000Km Battery (3rd one since owned).

260 000Km Turbo impeller seized up (twisted on high boost).

Replaced with a Garret t2.5.

265 000Km Head gasket replacement (precaution)

General comments?

Lovely motorcar to drive. Thoroughly enjoyable to drive in town or on

national highways.

Had to lower suspension (coil springs) to adjust to my sporty drive manner, maximum 60mm.

Like any loved car it needs a lot of attention, a bit irritating when all the little pipes for boost gauge, oil feeds, etc. decides to go in a 30 day period.

When the need surfaced, set the boost up from 0.5bar to 0.9 bar running

on 103 octane fuel, no pings or misses. Kept boost up at 0.9 bar with

t2.5 turbo 93 octane with no faults.

No major dip in fuel consumption, in town with relative moderate driving it never drops below 11km to litre, and on the road with driving at peak about 4000rpm at 140-150km/h it goes up to 14km per litre.

Best speed on the 800m sprint 196km/h, shaming your VW Golf VR6`s

and Opel Kadett Superboss.

Will never sell, approaching the 300 000Km mark with no major let downs along the road, after all this time I still get in the car on a whim and drive 2000km, without checking the oil!!!

The Scorpion Abarth sign will probably be fitted on my wheelchair one day, with the car parked on a carpet.

Thank you FIAT, for making my 2nd car the most enjoyable drive I`ll ever know.
