1985 AMC Eagle review from North America
"Excellent blend of jeep and family car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Since this car had come from a wrecking yard as a parts car to replace some cosmetic items, many things were missing and were scavenged from other cars.
I think that the only problems that the previous owner had with it were that the carburetor was a mess and it had a bad rear wheel bearing.
General comments?
I actually own two wagons. I was given one and drove it for several years. It has 225000 original miles and still performs extremely well, but begining to show some cosmetic problems. My second was purchased to supply parts for the first and instead was put into service. They are both remarkable cars and I cannot find a current day replacement. I drive them every day and living in Southeastern Idaho at an elevation of 6500 feet, snow and mountain roads are a fact of life. (Its 88 miles over 9000 foot passes to the nearest McDonald's) I simply leave my newer vehicles parked and rely on these excellent machines for everything from hauling pipe on the roof rack from Home Depot to taking my wife out to dinner. One has a standard transmission and I find it better in rough boulder strewn back roads and the other is an automatic and is better for everyday driving although both do well in all conditions. I have found nothing that compares.
