1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Sport Coupe review from North America
"A fond childhood memory"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
RUST!!! This car started to rust two months after it was purchased by my grandmother back in 1986.
Door would not shut one day.
Driver's window failed once.
Rear view mirror fell off.
Shift knob became unscrewed.
Gear select indicator broke.
Battery mysteriously failed only at the grocery store.
Not bad at all for a then ten year old car.
General comments?
The most gorgeous car you ever saw. My grandmother had offers everytime she went to the grocery store. It was this beautiful light yellow/beige exterior and had a nice caramel/dark tan interior. It had a full bench seat, power windows, manual locks, and wire wheel covers. In 1996, when my the woman my grandma worked for bought her a Ciera, she gave Monte to me. I was only eight. Even though we could've kept it, I gave it to my cousin out of the kindness of my heart because he had no car. THAT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE!!! My cousin lowered it, replaced the stereo, smoked and burned holes in it and wanted to paint it blue. Later, he blew the motor and sold to a guy in Davie, Florida. I cried for 2 weeks straight. That car was my life, the happiest memory of my childhood, and the only object I loved (not including family). My plans for the future are to buy an exact replica of the car or if possible, buy it back from the current owner. It will only be eight more months until I get my permit here in South Florida. I understand that 1986 was the last year for the sport coupe body style and was the only year you could get the sport coupe, sport coupe CL, luxury sport, SS, and SS Aero Coupe all in he same year. The sport coupe was phased out by the LS in 1987. In my opinion, that was a big mistake. If, by chance, you have a similar Monte or know someone who has one, please e-mail me at saturn9761@hotmail.com.
P.S. If you are the owner of my grandmother's Monte Carlo please email me. Thank you.
