1999 Volkswagen Passat GLS review from North America

Noticed interior door panel was damaged before I took delivery from dealer. Had them replace prior to delivery, however they ordered the wrong panel and I had to wait an additional week.

Exterior trim piece had to be replaced because it was damaged during delivery and had been spray painted to cover it up.

Ignition coil failed at around 15,000 miles and was replaced under factory warranty.

1 week later a second ignition coil failed, dealer then replaced all of the remaining coils, again under factory warranty.

At 35,000 miles the ignition module let go and stranded me, luckily I have purchased the extended warranty and it was covered. Otherwise I would have been looking at a $1000.00 repair bill.

38,000 miles the mass airflow sensor required replacement, this was also covered under the extended warranty. Otherwise it would have set me back $700.00!

2 days later, check engine light came on. It was the airflow sensor again, replaced at no cost.

I love the way the car looks & drives,

the fit & finish of the vehicle is excellent, but the cost & frequency of repairs is disturbing. Luckily the dealer service writers have been very nice so far, which is good since I am now on a first name basis with them.

I would be hard pressed to purchase or even recommend buying another Volkswagen product.
