1986 Chevrolet Sprint ER review from Caribbean
"Very very economical, especially here where gas is expensive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Firstly, I purchased this car from a Custom and Excise auction for G$ 105, 000 (approx. US$ 550).
It was lying at the wharf for 3 years, so rust was very significant.
The major reconditioning done were:
New tires, straightening and respraying (silver), upholstery, carburettor cleaning (the fuel left powdery oxide and the jets were clogged), oil and filter change, new battery, new exhaust muffler.
The electrics were in working order, which was a surprise to me.
I did not have to change as many parts as I thought.
It is damaging the v belts, due to the rust on the pulley. I guess I will have to sacrifice a belt or two until it gets smooth.
General comments?
A female friend of mine saw the car as it come from the wharf and said she would not go in that at all.
Well, 3 months ago hers overheated while she was on an out of town trip, and "lillie", as we call it - due to its size, had to rescue her. Since then...
At another instant, a male friend of mine ask me if the car will be able to go out of town. Since then it did for 6 trips of at least 40 miles each.
So guess what, his timing belt for his Corolla snapped recently and who did you think pulled him home... lillie.
This car is suitable for me.
