2001 Ford Ranger XLT review from North America
"This is a bargain for the buck"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Check engine light on at 10,000 MI. Dealer had to move throttle cable because it was making rattling noises inside the cab. Headlamps fogged up at about 1,000 MI and were replaced at warranty cost. Currently I have problems with the fog lamps and headlamps. When I first turn them on I have to check if they are on because sometimes they aren't. If they aren't I will wiggle the socket and all of a sudden they will pop on. Dealer will not replace because they are to lazy to do it or the fact that the harness is $2,500. Replaced brakes at 30,000 MI. Drive-line makes a lot of noise. Transmission slips sometimes. Otherwise not too many problems.
General comments?
Nice looking truck. I have white super-cab 4-door 4X4. She is fast for her class of truck. Took here to the strip recently and she ran a 16.0 flat. Motor-trend said 16.6. Took her off road last winter and she was amazing. I didn't get stuck at all. I hear that the 2002 model has a few quirks worked out of it from 2001. All in all this is a nice truck and I will always buy a ford any day of the week.
