1983 Subaru 1800 DL 4WD Wagon review from Australia and New Zealand
"Excellent value for money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Some dick head who had the car before me had put a small cone shaped petrol filter on the inlet tube to the carby. Well... we went 4WDing in the desert one day and she started to over heat and was getting a severe shortage of petrol, so we had to strip the carby down to find the problem, and we solved it.
Also the CV Joints don't seem to last very well, maybe it's just the way I drive it or nobody makes good quality joints anymore.
Other than that nothing has gone wrong with the car, except your usual wear and tear parts.
General comments?
The car has excellent off road abilities, a very torquey little engine with plenty of get up and go. I have done a few little mods like a 2inch straight through exhaust system, mildly worked cam (compession ratio @ 10:1, from 9.1:1) and high energy Bosch GT40 coil. It's also got SAAS Sports seats and steering wheel, and a clarion/Blaupunkt stereo.
