1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America
"Not worth the time and effort required for the year and mileage"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My first headlamp blew out at 500 miles.
The passenger side taillight assembly melted resulting in shorted out bulbs around 15000 miles.
The battery died at 33000 miles. About 400 miles later the dealer said I needed an alternator as well.
At 36010 miles, I complained of squeals and coolant loss. Dealer said water and power steering pumps went bad along with the intake manifold gasket.
Now with 36853 miles the squealing has come back.
Starting to notice lights dimming at night when I let off the gas.
General comments?
The car was leased by my mother from May 1999 to June 2002. When we went to turn it in, they offered us such a good deal to buy it out that I couldn't resist. My 89 XR7 has 120k on it and with the new baby we figured it would be a good purchase.
The vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times since I took over the car. They told me that alternator wasn't the cause of the first battery. They claim that they never would have let the car out of there without testing the alternator. As if an error on them was impossible.
My warranty has a 100 dollar deductible which is not bad when it comes down to it. I don't want to be paying 100 bucks every two weeks to fix it on top of my payments.
