1991 Mitsubishi Mighty Max review from North America
"A reliable little workhorse if the required maintenance schedule if followed"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The body of the power steering pump began leaking at approx. 100K. I repaired it myself with a $15 seal kit from the dealer. (They wanted $300 for a new pump.)
The radiator core was rotting out at 100K. (I attribute this to the trucks former coastal environment). The dealer wanted $500 for a new one. I found a new one at a local parts shop for $119 and installed it myself.
At 107K I noted the clutch was slipping. Shortly thereafter, the clutch arm broke. At a local repair shop, a new clutch assembly including pilot bearing, pivot arm, cable, and clutch arm, were installed for $786.
General comments?
After acquiring this vehicle and resolving the deferred maintenance, I'm finding that, overall, it's very reliable.
Some negatives would be the poorly constructed (bench) seat, creaking rear suspension, bouncy ride, and lastly, but most annoying, the poorly designed clutch. Very grabby and touchy from a standing stop.
