1999 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Avantguarde review from UK and Ireland

Numerous Coil Packs replaced, so was regulary braking down. On the Third One.

Suspension bushes, especially the rear are always being replaced under warranty. Until recently. (Common, I've heard. On 8th Set! Constantly knocking and creaking from rear.

Front Windows, dropped a number of times, occasionally creaked when going up and into postion.

Steering column replaced twice, due to rattling.

Clutch problem at 30k miles, replaced under warranty.

Replacement gear box at 2k miles, replaced under warranty.

Recently loosing first gear after service.

Sunroof and drivers door leaking occasionally, dealer still can't source it.

All lights dim for a short period of time when turning on rear window heater.

Cd player overheating, dealer says nothing wrong with it.

Brake callipers stuck on drivers side and subsequently warped the brake disk, and wore down the pads. 20k miles. replaced under warranty, apart from disks.

Wiper mechanism replaced at 10k miles, was creaking when active. replaced under warranty.

Rear suspension arm replaced due to being faulty.

Performance problems after first service.- warranty issue.

Radiator hose fell off at 15k miles, stranded for 1 hour at side of road.

Fuel injection system failed at 12k miles, fixed under warranty.

Handbrake cable slipped, fixed under warranty.

Great peformance for a 1.4. rather disapointing on understeer on country roads, car seems to come into its own on the motorway.

Nice to drive long distances.

Large sunroof means that you get great ventalation in summer.

If not for all the faults this would be a fantastic car.
