1987 Audi 4000 CS quattro review from North America
"The best thing to come along since the internal combustion engine"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fuel regulator went, as well as front and rear suspension.
Required new timing belt and muffler.
Window switches break frequently, need to re-file the contacts.
General comments?
This is an amazing vehicle. The "quattro" 4X4 is a great feature, and the drivetrain is incredibly solid. I had to give my quattro away, because I moved to California. My father recently bought a Subaru WRX and I took it to Vermont to visit my buddy sander and my old car. We were tearing around the twisty dirt roads in the Green Mountains, I in the WRX and sander in the quattro and I honestly couldn't keep up with him! I have taken 90 degree turns at 45 mph and highway ramps at 75 in this car. You point it in the direction and it goes, no questions asked. It isn't terribly fast, true (it redlines at 120) but the handling just cannot be beat. Having just recieved a loan for a new vehicle I was looking at porsches until I drove my quattro again (it had been awhile) and now I'm shopping for a 4000 quattro again. Oh, and theyre super comfortable and just perfect except they don't have drink holders. They are expensive to fix so watch out, but don't worry too much because they'll usually run for about 250-300 thousand miles.
