1992 Lincoln Mark VIII review from North America
"Headache on wheels"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission was very sporadic. Downshifted at random. Would not engage overdrive after 110,000. Under speed from stop, transmission would overshift into 3rd gear. Transmission was garbage.
On-board computer system did not detect a faulty alternator until 30 seconds before the car shut down completely. Battery idiot light lit sporadically. Dealer-installed alternator was nearly $400! Pep Boys did it for $260. The sad part is the alternator is at the top front and center under the hood, yet it is a nightmare to replace.
Interior is totally plastic (and leather), with the radio controls and heater control buttons all broken, but functional.
General comments?
MONEY PIT. I have read nightmare stories of expense related to the electronic suspension and transmission. I got rid of mine just in time.
