1998 Ford Mondeo LXTD review from UK and Ireland
"Un-reliable, comfortable and nearly economical"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Immobilser/Alarm has always behaved irratically. Dealer can't fix.
Air-Con broke at 37,000 miles.
Passenger electric window broke at 40,000 miles.
Rear bumper started to split at 42,000 miles because the it vibrates at motorway speeds. Noticed it on many other mondeo's too.
Anti roll bar need replacing after 75,000 miles.
Alternator went at 80,000 miles.
Power steering pump broke at 86,000 miles.
Starter motor went at 87,000 miles.
Numerous other minor faults.
General comments?
Overall it's a nice comfortable car.
But I'm always waiting for the next thing to break.
Running costs are good, until you take into account the constant repair bills.
Reasonable amount of power for the size of the car, though nothing exciting. Very very sluggish at low revs.
Feels slightly un-balanced at high speed, but otherwise the handling is pretty good.
Ford's Radio/CD player is basically crap.
