1999 Ford Ranger Base review from North America
"I am pleased with this truck, just hope I can keep it going for another 520,000 miles"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The dome light started staying on at about 50,000 miles. I finally lubricated the switch in the door and it stopped.
Windshield wipers come on from time to time. I haven't repaired them yet.
Fan clutch failed at 150,000 miles.
Timing belt broke at 220,000 miles.
Transmission pilot shaft bearing failed at 280,000 miles.
Muffler heat shield came loose at 180,000 miles.
The dash lights burned out at 250,000 miles.
Fuel pump failed at 450,000 miles.
The hydraulic throw out bearing is currently leaking. Have not fixed it yet. I am adding fluid regularly until I have time to take the truck off the road to repair it.
General comments?
I drive approx. 3500 miles a week delivering mail. I believe this vehicle has been very reliable. In four years I have had 2 failures that caused the mail to be late. The timing belt and the fuel pump. I replaced the spark plugs at 430,000 miles. I believe that they are very difficult to change. This is the base 2 wheel drive unit with air conditioning.
