1981 Nissan 280C review from Australia and New Zealand
"A cheap lemon"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Radiator.
Heater.
Engine Starter.
Ball bearings.
Rust on the front and rear guards.
Air-con belt.
General comments?
This was my first car ever and I bought for almost nothing ($1600 AU or about $800 US). Considering the package (6 cyl. engine, air-con, power steering, allow wheels, power windows, power mirror) and the size of the car I believed to have scored a bargain. Sadly it turned out to be quite a lemon of a car.
First of all it's a very thirsty car even though it has only 2.8 ltr engine.
Parts are almost non-existent and are very expensive once you find them.
Engine Starter went after only 100 km.
Radiator needed to be replaced after 1 year because it began to leak water badly. Heater was probably broken and fogging up the front windshield, but wasn't replaced because it was too difficult to get to it and was going to cost a fortune. Carburetor needed to be cleaned very often because otherwise the car wouldn't start in the mornings and in cold weather. On a few occasions the engine stalled. The car was broken in twice because the door locks can be opened with a thumbnail. After my mechanic told me that front ball bearings needed replacing I got rid of the car for $700 AU and was pretty happy about it considering I had it for almost 2 full years. All in all not a pleasant experience.
