1998 Ford Escort Ghia 3D review from Finland
"Too small to be quite comfortable, but good value for money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The steering wheel occasionally makes a strange sound when turned. I think it has something to do with the speedometer wires.
At wintertime the central locking may lock the doors by itself. This happened once in my old Escort, and has happened once in my current one. Last time I got locked outside while car running. Never get out of the car while motor running when cold.
The Ghia dash looks ugly and has started whining.
Otherwise it seems the latest Escorts are very well made, no serious faults.
General comments?
The engine is quite thirsty, generally 7,8 - 8 l/100km. My wife's Vento runs for almost a liter less.
The car is very good to handle at winter, it runs like on rails on a snowy or slippery road at high speed (compared to other cars on a snowy or slippery road). In normal conditions I would say it has a typical small car feeling.
