1994 Rover - Austin 200 SEi review from UK and Ireland
"Downsizing was hard to do, but worthwhile!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
In order...
O/S/R door lock motor
Water pump
Noisy input shaft bearings in gearbox
Clutch judder.
General comments?
Like my Montego I previously owned, i`ve suffered some of the common faults of this model. However, I bought it well cheap and have done all of the work myself. The car has become a smart, quick and reliable with many uneventfull journeys from the midlands to the north east.
The car is well appointed with leather, walnut and sumptious carpet. It has a swift and short gearchange.
Could do with vented discs, as the standard ones are fade prone if used hard.
Ride is typically Japaneese, firm and knobly at low speeds.
The 103bhp engine is not the most economical unit. However it performs superbly.
Interior is quite noisy at speed, with high road noise and boomy engine due to firm engine mounts.
Standard Rover/Phillips radio is poor.
BUT I LOVE the car!!
