1998 Dodge Intrepid STD review from North America
"If I won a Chrysler car in a contest, I would give it back."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I bought this car in 1999 because I loved the looks of it. I wish I would have done more homework before hand.
Electronic window mechanism broke at 40000 miles $250.
Short circuited wiring caused fuse damage and speedometer had to be reset. Several hundred dollars.
Interior dome light switch broke at 75000.
Transmission went somewhere around 70000 miles.
Heating problem at 80000. Some type of cracked plate in the heating unit needed replaced.
The final straw. Engine oiling problem at 86000 miles. When I took the car to the dealer for the heating problem at 80000 miles the mechanic warned me that the cars have an oiling problem and to change the oil changed every 3000 miles. At 86,000 miles, I was told there was oil buildup, the oil pump was going, I lost compression in the #2 cylinder and the bearings in the rod were damaged.
General comments?
The car looks and handles great. Too bad Chrysler did not pay as much attention to the reliability and workmanship as they did appearance.
