1983 Oldsmobile 98 Regency review from North America

"This is the mother of all cars"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

2 transmissions replaced- one at 85000 miles the other at 140000 miles.

The starter went at a gas station.

The driver's seat is ripping badly.

Rear passenger side power window stopped working, and the other 3 short out now and then.

The ceiling of the car is falling down.

The air conditioning stopped working before I got the car.

General comments?

My mom had the car before I inherited it. She had gotten into a head on collision and took the car off the road. I went away camping for a week and when I came back the car was all fixed up for me.

Sure most 17-year-olds want little sports cars, but the car was given to me for free, and I actually learned to love that land yacht. I even gave it a nickname: "The Shaguar"

Do not be fooled by this huge, boxy monster. It sure can move out. Who needs a sports car when you have a speed boat on wheels!

When I had gotten what I thought was an "upgrade", and I gave the car to my sister. Well needless to say that "upgrade" gave me one headache after another. Luckily, when my sister got a new car this past Christmas, my mom didn't junk or sell the Regency.

After a couple of months, I decided I was going to put the 98 back on the road. I learned that you just can't beat a car like that. The gas mileage isn't the best in a beast like that, but then again it isn't in a new sport utility vehicle either.

The 1983 Regency 98 is a very good quality car. The car rides so smooth, the engine is built to last, neither my mom nor I have gotten hurt in an accident, and the car 9 times out of 10, will start. This car is a good investment, and let's face it, they don't make cars like they used to. I'd take steel and chrome any day over tin and plastic.
