1996 Dodge Dakota SLT review from North America

Idle control motor continually gets carbon build up on the pintle about every 4,000 miles.

Lights inside the car won't work. It's not a big problem for me. It's not the fuse or engine fuses either.

Water pump went at about 60,000 miles.

The engine has a lot of carbon build up.

Windsheild cracked in the lower right hand corner. It wasn't a rock that hit it. I think the windshield cracked due to poor design.

The truck after I start it when its cold,it hesitates and almost wants

to stall out but doesn't. I think it might be my ignition system.

The truck does not get up to speed easily. I think the vacuum lines need to be checked because the transmission doesn't shift properly.

Dude, this truck rips when you open it up. Run straight 30 weight oil, some 93 octane gas and the lifters will stop making that annoying chatter.

Paint job on this truck is cheap. No cracks or chunks taken out, but chips very easily. I wash it and wax it as much as possible.

Cabin is very clean, seats are uncomfortable. Side panels rattle a little bit. Poor design. Junk!

I have installed a jerry rigged exhaust that to my surprise makes a big difference. First I chopped the catalytic converter because it went bad at about 100,000 miles. It made a rattling sound from under the car. At first I thought it was the torque converter.

Second I installed a Flow master muffler using the same mounts. With this mod it sounds like I have a V8. The Oxygen sensor doesn't know the converter is gone. I think the computer is used to the shot converter.

This truck is nice in appearance. But lacks the performance. All show, no go.
