1988 Alfa Romeo 75 review from UK and Ireland
"Every home should have one!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing has really gone wrong with this car as yet. All I have done is general servicing and balancing the twin 40's.
There is a small amount of play in the steering rack and a new one is quite expensive. I am having trouble finding a second hand one as most have power steering. Except mine!
General comments?
The car is great fun to drive and handles as you would expect from Alfa. The 1800cc engine produces around 120bhp which is not too bad for a car of this age. Mind you, I used to have a V6 and that was quick!
I get around 35 mpg on a run, but that drops to around 26 - 28 on small and twisty roads. May have something to do with my driving though.
Considering the size and weight of the car, the acceleration is fairly good, but it really shines coming out of bends as you can get the power down earlier than some lesser cars due to the fantastic grip.
A brilliant car.
