1990 Peugeot 205 GT review from UK and Ireland
"Very Warm Hatch. TU3s engine is like a rock"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Drivers side brake caliper seized due to high mileage.
The carburetor solex 32/34/z2 has once failed, the first jet collapsed, so it was full throttle all the way home :)
Front indicator fault.
Speedometer not working when received the car due to gearbox pinion.
General comments?
The 205 is one of the best cars around I think. I mean I have no rust, its reliable and its not too bad on the petrol side neither. If your looking for speed this car also has that, its not as fast as the 1.9gti, but its insurance group reflects the speed. In group 8 it does 0 - 60 in sub 9 seconds, and a top speed of 115mph.
Nice bucket seats as standard, nice steering wheel, positive feel to the handling of the car.
Engine has a few minor faults, but nothing that a experienced DIY-ist can't repair.
Also if you want to show the 1.9gti that your 1.4 is better, equip your 205 TU3s with a T3 turbocharger and increase boost to 12 psi, obvesiously lower the compression ratio. And watch them cry.
I have 140bhp @ 6000rpm and a quater mile time of 14 seconds (same as a sierra cosworth)
