1978 Chevrolet Caprice Classic review from North America
"A bullet proof classic car that will never let you down"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Certain dashboard lights flash on and off when a bump is hit.
From being so old the pleather (Plastic+Leather) seats ripped in two places.
Carburetor needed to be rebuilt due too bad timing before I got it.
Basically what went wrong with the car is warranted for how old it is and what went wrong went wrong because the parts just got old.
Plus the electrical system got messed up from yours truly putting an absurd stereo in it.. (Only had a radio when I got it)
General comments?
It saved my life one night when I was in high school. A woman crashed into a jeep and the jeep hit me head on when I was stopped at a stop sighn by the main road. He had to be doing atleast 50 mph. The jeep bent my bumper, smashed my header pannel, bent my hood and left and right quarter pannels. I drove my car home from the scene. both other cars where toatled, and 100 dollars later the front end has almost been fixed. Unfortunately with 77 impala front end parts because of the availabilty of 78 capprice parts isn't so wonderful where I live.
It doesent handle that well, but the suspension is for a family car and I understand what it was meant for. The original rims and tires that are on it really are too small for the size of a car it is.
But in conclusion I love my car and so do my friends, when I have some time and some money I'm going to restore it and store it someplace for nice sunny days with my family when I have it. My friends referr to it as "The Big Boy" (from dick tracy "big boy capprice") because of its elegance and power.
Car saved my life, it's a beast when its tuned correctly and has beautiful lines on it that make it a true chevrolet classic. Its never left me any place in all of the insane places I've driven it, I think it's a crime that chevy doesent make this car anymore. I would reccomend keeping this car if you ever find one in good shape it will treat you as well as you treat it.
