1991 Fiat Tipo DGT SX review from UK and Ireland

Had problems with the exhaust so had entire exhaust replaced and fitted at a cost of £45 from GT exhausts. This turned out to have a faulty mid box and so was replaced. Unfortunately, this too was replaced (all under warranty) Dodgy batch apparently!

Only things needed changing is rear brake disks changed and fitted at a cost of £10.

When driving at speed, engine would lose power. After changing spark plugs, distributer, coil etc this was traced to being a split vacuum cable! This was replaced and has run superb ever since.

This is my first car. It does have a high insurance group for a 1.6 (according to parkers, its group 12!)

While no sports car, it is exceptionally quick. I never thrash the car (I always stay below 4000 rpm, and don't go much over 85) but even still it pulls off superb in traffic.

For the boy racer in you, no nova, corsa, fiesta or uno will be able to keep up with you! It might not look cool, but it does come with some cool gadgets like leccie windows, mirrors and sunroof. Best of all is the digital dashboard. I know somepeople have had problems with them, but the only thing I had go wrong is a blown bulb which is a 5 minute job to change!

It is comfy on long journeys, and there is enough leg room in the back even when I have my seat right back.

After trying my parents Renault meganne though, I realised how bad the brakes were in comparison! Still, if you're gona crash, its best to do it in a tipo! I think most cars would come off worse against its huge metal frame!

I bought the car for £800, which I consider quite a bargain. Petrol consumption isn't bad even when pushed hard (just over 250 miles on £20 of fuel)

For some reason it does like its oil! Theres no smoke comming from the exhaust, and I can't locate any oil leak!
