1977 Datsun B210 AH14 from North America

Summary:

Love it, can't wait to have it restored to factory original

Faults:

Front brake pads.

Front end bushings.

Exhaust.

General Comments:

Starts every time, not bad for a 33 year old car.

Every time I drive it I get looks and smiles. Just today a little old lady parked beside us at a red light rolled her window down and asked us about the car, and said it was beautiful.

I've got 2 78 Datsun B210 hatchbacks, and they are the best cars I'll ever own. They're not exactly quick or fast, but they're a lot of fun to drive; they're old sweethearts.

My wife bought me a nearly new beige low mileage Datsun 210 4 speed with a trunk in the early 80s for Christmas. Funny, with all the cars since, this will always have a special meaning to me. Not too many would likely buy a husband a car like that. It was actually a very sensible buy. It was a nice reliable car and I was very sorry to see it go. But time for a new car.

1976 Datsun B210 1.4 from North America

Summary:

Rude and crude, but it never broke

Faults:

Nothing, reliable as an anvil, and about as many moving parts.

General Comments:

A very simple, easy to work on little car.

Great fuel mileage, but not much power.

Odd looking, with battering-ram bumpers. Strange dash design.

Very uncomfortable seats, on long trips had to get out of the car every half hour due to sore back.

Came with skinny, bias-ply tires. Handled very poorly, always felt like it was ready to slide off the road backwards. Uncomfortable stiff ride.

Back seat totally unusable except by Munchkins.

Hard to see out of dinky rear windows.

I liked your article. You were very correct about how reliable the car is and how easy to work on. Gas mileage for me has always been 36-41 miles per gal. Most of the time 40 on freeway and surface roads alike.

Bought the car Jan 12, 1975. Best thing I ever did was buy this car. I am now out of smog (So. Cal., of course). This car runs better than ever (My husband is an auto mechanic.)

I have never found the car uncomfortable (i am 5'2") and have used the back seat for a double bed when camping (the hatchback) The interior is thrashed, but the car is a user. Almost 300,000 miles on it. Only had to replace an engine because I ran out of water when a water hose broke. (we have a spare 76 Datsun we use for replacement parts (a $100 car).

Datsun B210's rule. I will be buried in this car. I get offers to buy this car all the time (fat chance!) I have other cars and they are all a lot older than my bug (Datsun)

Thank you, j. Tanny.

Cute, efficient, quick, dependable as hell

Head gasket at 112,000 miles.

Water pump at 100,000 miles.

Catalytic converter at 90,000 miles.

Ball joints at 90,000 miles.

Seats are un-comfy.

General Comments:

Downright reliable as anything, head gasket was my fault for running lean for a year. Fixed it myself - easy to work on.

Can handle some off road travel.

I get 30-35 mpg city/highway.

Cool looking!
