1999 Vauxhall Omega Elite review from UK and Ireland

"Overall, an excellent car and I would have another"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Intermittent starting problem. In the 12 months I have had the car I have called the AA out 7 times due to complete starting failure. The diagnostic computer states a crank shaft sensor problem, but Vauxhall says this appears until the car fires up. I think it could be the immobiliser. Any help here?

Climate control reverts back Zero whenever the ignition is off for over 50 minutes so when running on 'ECON' I have to reset by pressing the 'Auto' then the 'ECON' buttons. Niggly! Any help here?

The dashboard eats bulbs both behind the dials and in the computer and climate LEDs.

Eats tyres (225/55 R 16)

MPG has dropped to 26 since new plugs have been fitted.

Local main dealers are worse than useless very expensive and very unhelpful. However, I have found a performance Vauxhall specialist who now maintains the car (at a fraction of the price).

I would go for leather next time. The car has a light beige velour trim, which does show the dirt.

General comments?

The car is extremely comfortable and roomy. It offers great value for money. I bought the car as a work horse (It does 40,000 miles a year) and I can drive it 600 miles in a day and still feel fresh.

All the 'toys' help in particular the facility of running your mobile through the stereo by placing the SIM card in the unit.

The boot is very large (estate) and will allow most loads.

Having had an older Omega some years back, I can sympathise with those who complain about the headlights. However, the Xenon units offer fantastic illumination - needed on such a fast car at night.
