1973 Triumph TR6 PI review from Australia and New Zealand
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fuel injection has required sorting twice, new injectors, metering unit rebuild, bosch fuel pump installed, which imploded 4 years later and was replaced again.
Fairly bullet proof as a car, and easy to fix when things go wrong.
General comments?
The TR6 is the british sports car that has benefitted most from advancements in modern technology.
Better fuel pumps, telescopic rear shocks, chassis strenthening on front suspension mounts, better tyres, neoprene bushes, quick racks etc.
It is not as comfortable as an MG, but is not as boring either.
It will take one corner like a go cart and attempt to plow it's way straight through the next due to an erratic raod surface.
But this and other problems can be fixed.
Get a decent fuel pump, replace the lever arm dampers with telescopics in the rear, rebush the suspension with non rubber components, fit higher capacity front lights and find a good mechanic who knows what they are talking about around TR's.
And make sure that the wheels are aligned on the car, it makes an unbelievable difference.
Most of all, ignore people who tell you to leave the car stock standard, it's reputation in stock standard form when new is the reason it sounds, looks and handles as good as any 3000 Healey when put right, yet costs the same as an MG.
Sort out the problems that can be sorted easily and you will have a great car that you will never want to replace.
