1995 Holden Calibra YE review from Australia and New Zealand
"Stylish cruiser that still pulls the lookers"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Constant Oil leak.
I've had the sump gasket replaced
and did not cure the problem.
I've then had sump bolts sealed which cured some of the leaks.
But still trying to locate other leaks.
Loud steering pump when running cold (sort of like the alternator belt noise) which may need attention soon.
Thumping noise from the rear over bumps. Could be muffler, could be the tailgate, but could be something else. Still under investigation.
General comments?
Fuel consumption is great when driven carefully. $10 on Premium unleaded gives around 130kms.
Adequate performance and keeps up with most natural aspirated engines of same capacity.
Mechanical servicing such as timing belt crucial and must be changed way before 100,000kms and idle wheel must also be changed. When in doubt, have the water pump done when the belt is off to.
Twitchy handling at maximum attack. From under-steer to sudden over-steer. But generally the handling is quite good.
This is my second Calibra and it's a decent car, but if in search for one, please do your research before diving into a purchase and seek expert advice when looking for one.
