2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport review from North America

"Poorly constructed and designed"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

There is a constant leak in the passenger floor compartment. Took it to the dealer 4 times, keeping the vehicle there at least 3 days a piece and its still not fixed.

The alternator went in the first 6 months, draining the battery and ruining the starter. All replaced under warranty.

The speedometer housing on top of the transfer case broke, causing the fluid to drain from the transfer case without my knowledge requiring a transfer case replacement at 44000 miles.

Right front ball joint needing replacement at 44000 miles.

Steering stabilizer and control arm bolts needing replacement at 44000 miles.

Total repair costs to date: $2800.00.

General comments?

This vehicle has had numerous problems, some major, which should not be occurring on a vehicle this new. From day one, I have had to have things repaired/replaced and its seen the dealership more than any vehicle I've ever owned. This jeep doesn't see any off roading, its primarily a daily driver around town. Its not driven harshly and the maintenance schedule is followed. I cannot understand this. I fully believe the truck is a lemon and that Chrysler has made a defective product. I know of two people who, after purchasing wranglers themselves, had to trade them in for a more reliable mode of transportation after the rear ends went within the 1st 2 years. That said, I absolutely love this truck and I'm dismayed at its lack of reliability. I wish I could keep it forever however my wallet can't keep taking the hit. I'll be looking to Toyota or Honda for relief soon.
