2001 Mercedes-Benz A-Class review from UK and Ireland
"Mediocre"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Brake light switch failed on dual carriageway, resulting in electronics allowing the car to be driven at only 30 mph.
Power steering pump failed and needed to be replaced.
Excessive wear on front disk brakes, which needed to be replaced.
Excessive clonking and squeaking noises from front roll bars, which needed to be replaced.
General comments?
I really expected better from a Merc. Due to the problems, changed it after just 11 months for a C-class; now that is starting to go wrong as well. Overall, I'm not impressed with Mercedes. Had two Citroen Xantias for a total of 6 1/2 years prior to the Mercs, and never had any trouble with either of them; considering reverting to Citroen. Come on Mercedes, get your act together!
