1983 Daihatsu Charmant LE review from UK and Ireland
"Good, reliable transport at a bargain price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket blew at 45,000 miles.
Water pump failed.
Radiator needed replacement.
General comments?
A superb car for the money, as long as you're only interested in getting from A to B.
My other car is a Porsche 911. When that is in the shop being fixed, I drive the Daihatsu (yes, seriously!) It always starts, even when its been stood for a long time (the longest I've left it is about 9 months).
From the exterior, it's a pretty bland looking old Japanese car. I like the interior, though. I guess I'm a sucker for the 1970s style velour seats, green LCD clock and fake wood (i.e. wood-look plastic) dash!
