2003 Hyundai Elantra GT review from North America
"I am sorry I bought it, should have stuck with a Chevy."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When driving at highway speeds there is a whining/rubbing noise, like metal on metal, coming from the front left side of the car. I brought it back to the dealer, Hyundai of El Paso in Texas, and they replaced the left front wheel bearing. The noise went away, however the same type of noise surfaced on the front right side of the car this time.
I brought the car back to the same dealer and they replaced the right front engine mount. Once I reached 75 mph the same noise was still there. Now for another trip back to the dealer. I'll try Borman in Las Cruces, NM this time, maybe they can fix it.
They also needed to change the front windshield which had scratches on it.
The first attempt the replacement windshield was distorted and had worse scratches than the original windshield,
like they dragged it against whatever it was resting on.
A second try was attempted to replace the windshield, again by Southwest Glass in El Paso. However there was many light scratches and some deep scratches all over the driver side of the windshield. I will try Borman in Las Cruces with this problem also.
Another problem was with the manual shift. When shifting gears the gear shift felt like it was binding. This happened twice so far, but went away after some time. The dealer said there was nothing wrong.
General comments?
I like the interior the best about the car, it has the leather interior.
The drivers seat is very comfortable.
Drives OK except for the noise.
