1993 Ford Escort GT review from North America
"A pocket rocket that lets you have a fat wallet"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Cut a tire going over a curb
Driver's side seat belt frayed.
General comments?
I bought this car because my mom had a 96 LX that had been a very cheap and reliable car to own and operate. Mine being the GT model looks identical, but that is where the similarities end.
The GT, which benifits from a Mazda engine pumping out 40 more hp than the LX model is an absolute blast to drive. The engine begs you to step into it, and with a 7000 rpm redline, that is a temptation too difficult to resist.
The GT suspension and 15 inch tires make this car fun in the twisties. The 4 wheel disc brakes alone are reason to get the GT over the LX.
The seats are very comfortable for an entry level hatchback. The upholstery still looks good, but the body styling is starting to look somewhat dated.
It's also nice to only pay $12 for a full tank of gas.
