1992 Dodge Ramcharger review from North America
"The best, most reliable SUV out there"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rebuilt transmission around 110,000 miles.
In-tank fuel pump replaced around 100,000 miles.
Replace connector between steering shaft and gear box around 110,000 miles.
Engine fire (caused by pinhole leak in fuel line on fuel rail. Fire snuffed fairly quickly, thus limiting serious damage.
Engine controller computer replaced.
Replaced radiator around 120,000 miles.
Replaced hood release cable around 168,000 miles.
General comments?
A solid, reliable, dependable, low-maintenance SUV.
This is the third Ramcharger I have owned.
This is the first 4X4 I've owned. The other two (1988 and 1990) were also excellent trucks.
These vehicles are not your luxurious SUV's. Mine has no power windows, locks, cruise control, etc. Only power steer, brakes and intermittent windshield wipers. This basic vehicle is short on the ergonomic comforts of more late-year SUVs, but the basic simplicity means very few things have broken on this vehicle. And what breaks can be fairly easily repaired by a shadetree mechanic. The 3 Ramchargers I have owned have been the most reliable vehicles I've owned, along with a 1973 Dodge Dart.
