1999 Suzuki Swift review from North America
"The low costs of gas are outweighed by the high cost and repeated purchaise of parts"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
What things haven't gone wrong with the car...
When I purchased the car it needed a new A/C which seemed odd and wasn't too cheap to replace and it required a new repair/replacement just about every 10000 Km.
It also didn't come with nice tires, but that isn't really a problem.
The first winter I owned it the passenger side dash started bubbling up I just ignored this.
It needed new brake pads at about 30000 KM.
The passenger side airbag accidentally deployed in the fall this was replaced free of charge by the dealer who blames the sun damadge.
Shortly later I needed a new clutch which seemed a little off as the car was only nearing the 3 year mark and it had barely been driven (i got 400,000 KM from my eagle)
Somewhere during the life of this car I needed to replace the whole exhaust system.
And finally after putting up with all its shortcomings the steering column broke in the middle the highway and it pulled off into the ditch making me wait 2 hours for a tow truck. after this the car was written off and I'm glad to be rid of it.
General comments?
I will never NEVER! buy another car from Suzuki Chevrolet Pontiac or any other company that will sell a re-badged Suzuki.
I will have to give it credit for its fuel mileage which was somewhere along the lines of 45 MPG city.
The parts are far from cheap and are dealer dependent. with the money I saved on the VERY economical 1.3L I probably spent 100 times that on repairs.
The A/C needed repairs 4 times in 60,000 KM and needed to be replaced entirely twice.
If you're looking for a cheap car DON'T BUY A SWIFT unless you are investing in a Suzuki repair shop.
