1999 Volkswagen Bora S review from UK and Ireland
"Would be great if wasn't for gearbox!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Gearbox has been stiff since I bought it, dealer has looked at it and changed parts, but still obtrusive at times! It's a shame because it ruins the otherwise refined drive. Its not pleasant in busy conditions to find your car won't go into gear!
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution?
Also on day one the electric window on the passangers side fell off its runners.
General comments?
Nice car to drive, very relaxing, can actually be quite fun to, the engine is surprisingly sprightly for a 1.6 and encourages you to rev it for top performance (rorty sound), but flexible and can leave it in 5th from 40mph upwards. Ride very comfortable, some body roll, but grips fairly well. Best if driven smoothly rather than aggressively. Gearbox awful, precise, but very notchy and too often find myself in no gear!
