1998 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab review from North America
"A high-maintenance, yet reliable truck"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Overall, this little truck has proved very reliable, but at the cost of quite a few repairs.
Right after I bought the truck used in 2001, the rear differential started leaking so I replaced the seal.
At around 42,000 miles, my water-pump failed so I replaced it.
At 45,500 miles, the blinkers mysteriously stopped functioning. They now function intermittently.
At 46,000 miles, I had a transmission shop check out the slack that I discovered in my drive line. The technicians said it was common in Chevrolet's and not to worry.
At 50,250 miles, the driver's side idler arm broke. I had this replaced at Goodyear.
At about 60,000 miles, I had to replace my wiper motor.
At 67,000 miles, I had to replace both seat recliner mechanisms because they locked up, and also replaced the stock stereo because it failed to play even a self-cleaning tape.
General comments?
I have been extremely proactive with fluid changes and parts repairs. I bought the service manuals as soon as I noticed that this was a high maintenance vehicle.
This is a good truck for anyone who likes to spend some money to fix things once in a while.
